Sara Jayanthi (she/her) is a Senior Project Manager at NYSERDA on the NY-Sun team, where oversees the Solar Energy Equity Framework, a portfolio of programming that increases access to solar for low-to-moderate income (LMI) households and disadvantaged communities, helps New Yorkers save money on their electric bills, and reduces operating costs for affordable housing, nonprofits, and public facilities serving disadvantaged communities. She just spearheaded the relaunch of the Inclusive Community Solar Adder, one of the largest incentive programs in the country for community solar projects that serve LMI subscribers, affordable housing, and disadvantaged communities. Sara is also passionate about making the clean energy industry more diverse and inclusive, as she spent much of her career as one of the few people of color in a room. She helped write NYSERDA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Plan and serves on the organization’s DEI Council and Climate Equity Leadership Council.
Sara has been in the clean energy industry for many years, working in various capacities on solar, wind, workforce development, consumer education and innovation. Her previous work includes working for the NYU Tandon School of Engineering on commercializing emerging energy technology; growing the cleantech innovation sector for the NECEC Institute; and running clean energy outreach programs for Solar One. Sara started her career at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, administering programs for renewable energy and green construction projects. Sara teaches at NYU's Center of Global Affairs on topics in clean energy and cleantech. She holds a BA in environmental studies from Connecticut College, where she was a Goodwin-Niering Fellow, and a MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business.
