Securing Solar Energy: Mitigating Risks in the Growing Industry

The importance of cybersecurity in the clean energy industry is growing rapidly. As the utilization and dependence on renewable energy continues to expand in the United States and across the Northeast, it becomes imperative to bolster the defense mechanisms for cyber security. According to the NERC, cyberattack threats are at an all-time high. Distributed energy systems are vulnerable in the supply chain, software, and other areas which can lead to a loss in operations, production, and revenue. As a result, there has been an increase in organizations creating standards and regulations for cyber security. In this session, panelists will provide an overview of existing guidelines and regulations created by federal laboratories, energy officials, and standards organizations. They will also discuss the current measures adopted by utilities, developers, and manufacturers to strengthen the security of DERs and the grid.
